Coconut Rice (New Recipe)

Coconut rice! A very delightful dish to eat, full of flavour, full of nutrients and full of goodness!

Today, we are going to share our second version of coconut rice with you. This version is more like the West African coconut rice dishes as the final result is not creamy and the final dish looks quite simple, although it does not taste plain. The dish is a bit on the spicier side, but you can control the level of heat from the peppers by taking out the seeds or not using a green chilli pepper as those are actually spicier than red peppers.

Coconuts are one of our favourite things to add to dishes here at LickYourPlates. They always take dishes to a whole new level so, if you’re ready for a delicious meal, try out our coconut rice recipes.

Bon Appetit!

Penne Béchamel

Penne Béchamel is a delicious dish to unwind at dinner time with. This dish was inspired by the Egyptian Macaroni Béchamel. It consists of a seitan mince, a cheesy flavoursome béchamel sauce and penne pasta!

Seitan is a great protein source for vegans packed with protein, iron and a range of other nutrients. We will give a more in-depth description of it in the near future, with recipes included, as it is an ingredient we have been experimenting with for a few weeks.

We purchased our Vital Wheat Gluten (to make the seitan) from BuyWholefoodsOnline. The quality of their vital wheat gluten is great. However, their prices are lower than all other brands we’ve seen (even on Amazon). We will suggest purchasing it directly from them (using the link above) than from their Amazon store as, for some reason, it’s £2-3 more expensive on there. From their website, the price starts at £2.38 for a 500g bag and goes all the way up to a 25kg bag (we don’t think you’ll ever need that much). We purchased a 1kg bag costing £4.28. For a single person, this bag should last for about a month.*

Without further ado, here’s the recipe to our Penne Béchamel!

Guten Appetit!

Vegan Groups

By: Samantha

The vegan community is one that you either love or hate whether you are vegan or not, as vegans have a bad rep of being overly-judgemental and lacking compassion for fellow humans. Militant veganism turns so many people away from veganism and makes others uncomfortable publicly identifying as ‘vegan.’ It’s sad.

This impression of vegans is one I know to be true. However, it’s not true for every vegan and I have come to realise that by not just seeing that I am not a disrespectful, judgemental, hateful and inconsiderate vegan, but a loving one and one willing to hold a peaceful discussion or debate instead of yelling or preaching someone down just like many other vegans out there. Kiwi Jam

It is true that here at LickYourPlates, we can make almost any fruit into a sugar-free jam.

Recently, we had a lot of kiwis which would have otherwise have gone off if they weren’t all used up or cooked quickly so, we took it upon ourselves to develop a recipe using them and that’s how this recipe was formed.

This furry fruit is a great source of folate (vitamin B-9) vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin K, copper, fibre, manganese, potassium. It also contains calcium, iron, and omega-3 from the chia seeds making it, not just a delicious jam to have on toast or desserts, but a very healthy one too.

Without further ado, here’s our delicious green kiwi jam recipe!

Pizza Bianco

Vegans have been known for ordering or making pizza without cheese. How about pizza without tomato sauce? No, we are not suggesting you eat just dry pizza bread with vegetables. We are suggesting you go white with your pizza sauce.

Pizza Bianco is made using a white sauce in place of tomato sauce. Usually, this sauce tends to be soft, melted Italian cheeses, but of course, vegans can’t eat that. So, we have developed a white sauce for you so you don’t have to be deprived of a pizza bianco which is very delicious and relaxing to indulge in.

The pizza is topped with fresh, homemade seitan sausage slices, potatoes, rosemary, mushrooms, and onions. It’s pretty much, brunch on a pizza base!

We invite you to try out our latest pizza recipe.
